Provenance: The consignor bought this piece on a business trip to New Orleans in 1969 with Samuel Wagstaff, then curator of Modern Art at the Detroit Institute of Arts. After purchasing this lot and lot 166, he left them in a drawer for almost 3 decades. The consignor remembered the paintings two summers ago when a friend in NY, who is the assistant director of the Folk Art Museum there gave him a catalog of Morgan's work from the recent retrospective.
