Description
Artist: Orosz, Istvan. 1990. cca. 59 x 42 cm. Vintage poster. Paper, offset. Important poster of the Regime Change in Hungary. The poster advertises the new democratic party: MDF, which formed the first democratic government in 1990.The text on the poster says: "Comrades, it is over! - Hungarian Democratic Forum." The Russian text and the head of the fat officer are clear references to the Soviet Army, which occupied Hungary in 1945, and established the Socialist state. The Soviets stayed for more than 50 years. Around 25 years ago, on the 9th of November 1989 started the demolishing of the dreaded Berlin Wall. This was a symbolic event of the political transmitting in Central Europe. In Hungary the first free election took place in the spring of 1990. The composition by Orosz represented a new propaganda for freedom and independence. Originally it wasn't made for the MDF party, Orosz created the composition without any ordering. Later the MDF party "bought" the design. The poster covered the walls of Budapest during a turbulent period, when the city was full with demonstrations. This one is the most known poster in Hungary, everybody who lived through 1989-1990, remembers it, and today it has a great historical value.
