Description
Artist: Gunda, Antal. around 1960-1970. Original design. 34,5 x 25 cm. Black paint on red paper. Impressive typographic design by Antal Gunda. Text: "Long Live 7th of November, the Anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution!" The design is hand painted, all the letters are drawn. The typography resembles the typographic style of the revolutionary posters of 1919, many of them created by Marton Tuszkay and Erno Jeges. With the visual evocation of the Hungarian revolution, Antal Gunda refers to the Russian revolution of 1917. Markings: stamp on the capsule: 'Gunda Antal hagyateka 1929-2013' (Heritage of Antal Gunda 1929-2013).7 November is the anniversary of the October Revolution, was the official national day of the Soviet Union from 1918 onward. Between 1945 and 1989 it was also a national holiday in the Socialist Hungary. The October revolution of 1917 also marks the inception of the first communist government in Russia, and thus the first large-scale socialist state in world history. After this Russia became the Russian SFSR and later part of the USSR, which dissolved in late 1991. The October Revolution took place with an armed insurrection in Petrograd traditionally dated to 25 October 1917 (by the Julian or Old Style calendar, which corresponds to 7 November 1917 in the Gregorian or New Style calendar).
