Description
1913. cca. 95 x 63 cm. Paper, lithography. Vintage poster of a horse riding and racing association. The poster originates from the 1910's, in fact, it is a very very early sport poster. The central image is a painted composition, presumably work of a trained painter. The image shows racing horses in a typical Hungarian landscape. The anonymous artist focused on the accurate representation of the moving animals. In the history of Hungarian horse riding it was an important step when the Pest County Equestrian Club was established in 1912. The founder was Albert Pejacsevich, the first ‘gentleman-trainer’ of the Monarchy, who was a great horse trainer according to contemporary sources. He was the one who founded the racetrack at Káposztásmegyer. Hungarian horse riding invigorated at the beginning of the 20th century. Pejacsevich was urging the development of Hungarian horse riding, by such actions as training local jockeys. Thus the poster is a beautiful and significant memory of the early days of professional horse riding in Hungary. Probably it was designed by a painter since the composition is dominated by a painted snapshot of a horserace and the typography on the top harmonically connects to it. What makes the poster unique is that there is a horse among the riders which has no rider.
