ENGLISH OILS ON CANVAS, 19TH C., H 16" W 12", DUKE & DUCHESS OF BEDFORD:Portraits of Francis, Duke of Bedford, and his wife Anna Maria Stanhope, Duchess of Bedford. Both appear to be unsigned, stamped at the reverse of the canvas with the William Eatwell mark, circa 1816-1860. Measuring H. 16" x 12", displayed in pierce carved gilt wood frames.

Areas of craquelure noted to both, with areas of cracking seen on the frames. Otherwise condition appears to be good. (As viewed under UV light in the unopened frame: painting of the duke has c. 2-3% overpainting concentrated in, but not limited to, the head - particularly the top of the head and the right cheek; not lined; overall craquelure with some instability; slight, very small white 'spots' on left; gilt antique frame with cracks; the duchess painting has some overpainting in her face under the right eye and in the nose, also a little just below her neck on her back, and some overpainting along the bottom of her dress; overall noticeable cracking of the paint with instability; not lined; gilt frame with cracks.
