This is a vintage, hand colored, Offset Lithograph titled "Heliangelus Spencei" (Spencer's Sun Angel) from an Original Lithograph by Listed 19th Century Artists John Gould (1804-1881) from the suite: A Monograph of the Trochilidae (or a Family of Hummingbirds). Published in 1849-1861
The image measures approximately 19.5"h x 13.5"w. Matted & Framed it measures approximately 36"h x 30"w.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Although not formally trained, JOHN GOULD (1804-1881) became one of the great ornithological scientists and artists of the 19th century. Even Charles Darwin insisted that only Gould could draw and prepare the bird plates for his reports. The only artist to rival Audubon, Goulds output was much more prolific. His large-folio volumes included hundreds of hand-colored lithographs each, showing species from around the world in their natural habitats.
