Italian 19C Bombe or Bombay Olivewood Chest of Drawers

Item Details

Description

The Italian 19th or early 20th century olivewood bombe chest has a shaped softwood case and is veneered with olivewood in a decorative patchwork design accented with string inlay. The shapely chest of drawers has acanthus carved trim along the base with scrolled feet. One foot has an old re-glued repair and there are some veneer losses between the drawers. There is also extensive wormwood mostly concentrated on the back. The chest also has an inlaid pull-out slide above the top drawers that conforms with the top. The chest retains its original brass hardware and is stamped on the base of the case “Made in Italy” in four places. Measures 36 inches in height, 38.5 inches in width and 16.5 inches in depth.
