GERMAN PORCELAIN REGIMENTAL BEER STEIN, hand-painted polychrome decoration, .5L size, depicting scenes of bivouac, winter sentry duty, barracks life, and a soldier in dress uniform with a lady. Inscribed under rim "Fur Erinnerung an meinen dreiundzwanzig jahringen Geburtstag" or "For Memory of my twenty-three year old birthday", and a second line "leim(?) 4ten Unterelsabischen Inf. Reg. Der 12 Comp. In Mutzig in Elsabs" or "with bond (? "leim" translates as "glue" or "bond") 4th Under-Alsatian Inf. Reg. Of 12th Comp. In Mutzig, in Alsace". With hinged pewter lid and domestic scene lithophane under base. Fourth quarter 19th/early 20th century. 10" HOA.
