Lithograph "Woman in the Street" After Ernst L. Kirchner; , size approx. 31 1/2 x 22 1/2 in. Ernst Ludwig KirchnerĀ (6 May 1880 ā 15 June 1938) was a GermanĀ expressionistĀ painterĀ andĀ printmakerĀ and one of the founders of the artists groupĀ Die BrĆ¼ckeĀ or "The Bridge", a key group leading to the foundation ofĀ ExpressionismĀ in 20th-century art. He volunteered for army service in theĀ First World War, but soon suffered a breakdown and was discharged. In 1933, his work was branded as "degenerate" After theĀ NazisĀ and in 1937 over 600 of his works were sold or destroyed. In 1938 he committedĀ suicideĀ After gunshot.
