Rare poster for the Human Be-In held at the Polo Grounds, Golden Gate Park, Saturday, January 14, 1967, from 1 to 5 pm and free to all. The gathering featured Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg, Richard Alpert, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Dick Gregory, Gary Snyder, Michael McClure and others, including "All San Francisco Rock Bands." One of the iconic event posters of the 1960's, spreading the word about what was probably the last authentic gathering before the innocence of the culture would be diluted and commercialized. The artist, Rick Griffin, is recognized as one of the great poster artists of the era. This is the first printing of the poster. Accompanied by the rare handbill featuring the same design. Provenance: The Psychedelic Shop on Haight Street. With a sheet of letterhead from the shop signed by proprietor Jay Thelin. The shop closed in October, 1967, and the poster has been in Mr. Thelin's possession since that time.

Condition

Poster with minor tape stains in top margin, slight toning/rubbing around the edges; handbill folded horizontally; both near fine.
