ATTRIBUTED TO J. ALDEN WEIR (AMERICAN, 1852-1919) ROSES. Oil on canvas, laid to board. Signed "Weir" in the lower right corner. Verso bears two tags reading "J. Alden Weir Roses" and a third tag resding "Lyman Bros. Indianapolis" Board: 14.5" x 18"
Condition
This piece has a light - medium amount of grime build up. There is a significant varnish layer under black light masking possible restoration and cause noticeable yellowing to the naked eye. There is a faint craquelure to the surface visible below the heavy varnish layer. This is mostly in the darker background pigment. There is a noticeable scratch/gouge to the surface that has pigment loss exposing the wood below. This scratch is in two parts both 1.5 x .5". This scratch is located in the lower right quadrant on the red table cloth about 5" above the lower right corner. This scratch/gouge is a lighter pigment. There is some more wear and scuffing to the edges that are covered by the frame.
