Dimensions: 67 x 50.5 cm
Golden stucco frame: 108 x 88 cm
Good Condition
Portrait of a lady in antique-like robe, executed with quick brushstrokes. Details like folds and bracelet are captured with a few hasty brush strokes and is thus characteristic for Makovsky’s portraits of young beauties; similar portraits of ladies fetch over €200,000 in the international auction market

Makovsky initially painted scenes of the life of the Russian people before he devoted himself to portraiture, depicting reputable people from the Russian society and scenes from the life of the boyars in the 17th century. Our painting, however, shows a young Roman woman. Exactly this painting was probably presented at an exhibition of the St. Petersburg Society of Artists in 1908 – in the catalog of this exhibition under No. 107 a painting by M. Makovsky, entitled ‘(The) Roman Condido (draft)’, is listed at a price of 300 rubles.

Condition:

Small retouching at the cheeks, forehead and dress. A number appears under UV-light (presumably an identification mark by the previous owner). Otherwise overall of good impression. The image size is 67 x 50.5 cm, the framed dimensions are 108 x 88 cm.
