Carved from a grey jade pebble with russet exterior, the recumbent horse with hooves tucked neatly beneath its body, with a monkey on its back. Skillfully carved to have the russet exterior of the pebble highlight key details such as the monkey's face and arms, and the horse's ear and cheek. A monkey (hou) on a horse's (ma) back forms the rebus "mashang feng hou" which means "may you immediately be elevated to the rank of marquis." Approx. 5 3/4 by 10 1/2 in., 14.5 by 26.7 cm.
