Description
1989. Ink on paper, hand scroll, un-mounted. Guan Shanyue was a famous Chinese painter from the second generation of the Lingnan School, and was also a member of the Renjian Painting Society. This painting depicts a traditional scholarly motif of an “ink plum†or flowering plum branch painted without the use of color. As plum blossoms bloom in late winter they are symbolic of moral endurance.
