Description
c. 1890, Meiji period. A pair of early and large Namikawa silver-wire cloisonne leaf-shaped vases with original wooden stands. Each vase depicts an olive or cream colored dragon flying through a night sky consisting of a black cloisonne ground filled with silver-wire clouds, surrounded by ribbon-like flames, above blue and white crashing waves. A ring of black, brown and blue lappets circles the foot ring and floral, zigzag, and cloud borders encircle the narrow neck. Silvered rim. Each bears square silver plaque featuring four character Namikawa Yasuyuki mark screwed into bases. Both vases with old acquisition number inscribed on foot rings. The vases approx. 11 by 4 in., 28 by 10 cm.
