20th century AD. A hollow-cast figurine of Buddha seated cross-legged on an elaborate lotus-flower base, draped in a decorative robe with pelletted crown. Figure of Bhaisajyaguru, the medicine Buddha. He is traditionally shown either holding a pot or, as in this example, a myrobolan fruit, a form of cherry plum, associated with healing. 12 kg, 43cm (17"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired 1990-2000.
