Description
India, 19th-early 20th century AD. Cast bronze figure of the eagle god Garuda kneeling on lotus flower base and with hands in the prayer gesture. Garuda, meaning the devourer, is the half man, half eagle mount of the god Vishnu and symbolizes the wind and the all consuming rays of the sun. 902 grams, 12.5cm (5"). Acquired on the London art market in the late 1980s.
