Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya, ca. 1-400 CE. This is a very rare and finely carved tubular pale green andesite bead with raised collars carved to represent the bamboo plant. So unusually large, so smooth to the touch, so lovely in its botanical iconographic form and pale green hue. Drilled laterally, the piece may have also served as a snuff tube. Measures approximately 11"L (28 cm) x 3/4"D (2 cm). It has a beautiful patina.
