Description
John Coleman b. 1949 CAA | The Rainmaker
Inscribed rear: John Coleman 19-25 © 98 | Media: Bronze | Dimensions: 60 by 17 by 10 inches; 64 by 18 by 12 inches including base
The Rainmaker by John Coleman was inspired by the journals and diaries of the noted American painter George Catlin (1796 1872). During his travels Catlin observed a number of sacred Indian ceremonies that involved an appeal to the Great Spirit for the life giving source of water-rain. This ceremony was virtually the same among pre-historic tribes of native Americans from coast to coast.
