Description
A collection of American Civil War era money and photograph comprising of an 1862 photograph of Union Army Brigadier General Joseph Hooker (1814-1879), the photograph taken by Matthew B. Brady (1822-1896) who is widely considered the father of photojournalism. The photo is mounted to a card inscribed to verso "Published by E & H.T. Anthony 501 Broadway New York, from photographic negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery", card approximately 4" x 2.5". The glass negative of this photograph resides in the Library of Congress. Photograph accompanied with nine paper bills of Confederate States of America money, including an 1861 $1 from the Bank of Augusta (#7402), an 1862 $1 from the Virginia Treasury (#181640), an 1863 $1 from The State of Georgia (#172), and from 1864 one $5 (#18283), three $10 (#4074, #71809, #103070), one $20 (#91919), and one $100 (#87154) Confederate States of America bills.
