Description
The symbol of three gold-colored balls has been a universial sign for pawn brokers since the Renaissance. These brass balls were used as part of a trade sign and were suspended from a bar. The symbol of the trade derives from the balls featured on the coat of arms belonging to the famous Medici family of Florence, Italy, who were among the first to operate pawn banks during the Renaissance.
