This bible manuscript on vellum comes from Ethiopia or Eritrea. The bible manuscript is bound with cotton threads, the boards consist of wood. the volume contains 147 double-sided inscribed sheets. The text is written in black and the text passages of the Saints are highlighted in red. The bible script is written in the ancient Ethiopian language ‘Ge’ez’. Ge’ez is the language of the late ancient Kingdom of Aksum and it was spoken until the end of the 19th century as their official language. Until today, the language is used in the Orthodox churches of both countries.
Condition:
The book contains characters in blue pen and some glosses. The sheets are partly browned. There are smaller losses of paper and staining. The dimensions are 14.5 x 12.5 x 6 cm.
