Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828)
The Spanish painter and etcher Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was a chronicler of the history of his country, not only as court painter. Today he is considered one of the last Old Masters and a precursor of Modernism. Both the subversive and subjective elements of his creation, as well as his painting techniques were influential on following generations – especially Manet and Picasso found inspiration in his work.
