Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944)

Wassily Kandinsky was born 1866 in Moscow, but used to live in Germany and France most of his life. He is considered an artist of the Expressionism and Abstract Painting who studied at the Munich Academy under Franz von Stuck. With his later partner Gabriele Münter he took several journeys, eventually meeting the artists Marianne von Werefkin and Alexej von Jawlensky in Murnau. This acquaintance led to the foundation of the ‘Neue Künstlervereinigung München’. A little later in 1911 Kandinsky was also part of the establishment of the so called ‘Blauer Reiter’ that resulted from the ‘Künstlervereinigung München’ and unfortunately split again in 1914.
