Very good condition

The series ‘Tristan et Iseult’ comprising in total 21 drypoint etchings in colors was issued in a French, a German, an English and an Italian book edition. Each first 25 copies were accompanied by a separate suite of the plates, numbered in roman numerals. The German edition was published by Orangerie Reinz, Cologne. In addition to the suites for the books further a suite was printed on Japon nacre (75 copies) and one additional album comprising the plates in different states.

Condition:

The sheet bears two small faint stains in the lower margin and is mounted to a mat with brown paper tape along the sheet edges on verso. The overall condition is very good. The plate measures 40 x 26.5 cm, the sheet is 45 x 32.7 cm.

Salvador Dalí (1904-1989)

The Spanish painter, printmaker and sculptor Salvador Dalí is one of the main representatives of Surrealism. Already during his school days he took private painting and drawing classes and studied from 1922 at the Academia San Fernando in Madrid, but was expelled for disorderly conduct in 1926. In 1929, Dalí joined the Surrealists in Paris and met Gala, his muse and future wife. Today his dreamy works, influenced by the unconscious, are displayed in collections of important international museums. Salvador Dalí is known as one of the most famous artists of the 20th Century.
