Follower of Thomas Phillips RA, British 1770-1845- Portrait of a lady, traditionally held to be Julia Floyd, later married to Sir Robert Peel, seated half-length in a white dress holding a lorgnette; oil on canvas, 76.5x64cm Note: For a portrait showing a similar likeness to the sitter, please see ''Julia (née Floyd), Lady Peel'' by Samuel Cousins, after Sir Thomas Lawrence, mezzotint, published 1832, an example of this edition is in the National Portrait Gallery collection.
Condition
in a gilt composition frame circa 1900 some chips and minor looses to the corers of the frame canvas has not been re-lined on the original wooden stretcher small area of old flaking above the head of the sitter canvas is subject to bar marks and old craquelure under inspection with uv lamp there is evidence of the varnish having been cleaned there appears to be no evidence of any retouching or over painting otherwise good original condition
