Description
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669). "A Young Man in A Velvet Cap (Portrait of Ferdinand Bol)", etching and drypoint on watermarked Arches paper, 1929 restrike from the original plate published by Byblis: Miroir des arts du livre et de l'estampe in a deluxe edition of 105. Etching depicts Ferdinand Bol (Dutch, 1616-1680), a student of Rembrandt's, at waist length seated at three quarters view, the sitter's left shoulder toward the viewer with his face peering toward viewer below a velvet cap, the subject wearing heavy robes and a neck scarf with stacked books to his right. Image size approximately 96mm x 82mm, sheet size approximately 34cm x 27.7cm, framed approximately 18 3/4" x 15 7/8".
