Jean Fouquet (1899-1961)
Jean Fouquet was the son of George and grandson of Alphonse Fouquet, owners of the venerable Parisian house of Fouquet founded in 1862. Jean Fouquet is considered one of the greatest artist-jewelers of the Art Deco period. He designed for the Fouquet company beginning in 1919 until its close in 1936. Afterwards, Jean continued to design jewelry, outsourcing to ateliers and workshops. In 1952, Jean Fouquet became a lecturer at the École Nationale des Arts Decoratifs. In 1958, he was immobilized by a severe illness, though he still participated in the ‘Exposition Universelle’ in Brussels and produced a series of jewelry. In the year of his death, the Victoria and Albert Museum centrally exhibited Jean and George’s work in the ‘International Modern Jewellery 1890-1961’ show.
