A LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY QUADRANT, an instrument used for measuring angular elevations or altitudes for use in navigation or surveying, having a moveable index or vernier along a plumb line. Metal construction, used in same way as a sextant which it superseded. New York maker. In shaped wooden case.
