This conch shell trumpet is called dung-dkar in Tibetan. The ritual instrument is made from a so-called sankha shell which is partly covered with a metal mount. The latter shows a detailed decor with floral patterns and a dragon. The conch is one of the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism, called ashtamangalas, and is used in Tibet as a religious musical instrument to invoke spirits or banish evil and herald Buddha's enlightenment. The sound is created by blowing through the mouthpiece on one end, much like a trumpet.
Condition:
The conch shell is in good condition with signs of age and wear. The mount is slightly bent with dents. The length is 31.5 cm. (tfa)
