"Farnham was the leader of a group of Oregon-bound settlers, known as the 'Peoria Party.' Leaving Independence on May 20, 1839, the party followed the Santa Fe Trail to Bent's Fort on the Arkansas River, where they divided. Farnham...traveled up to Arkansas, over the divide to the North Platte River, and on to Brown's Hole on the Green River...on to Oregon, arriving at Marcus Whitman's mission on September 23...." - (Wagner-Camp). First published in 1841, there were three separate editions in 1843. The present edition was issued as an "Extra" of the New York Tribune.
