Album with 181 captioned photographs. Captions written in white ink on the album leaves (below tipped in photos). 18x25.5 cm (7x10") , colored and blind-stamped cloth, string cord binding.
Album documenting the migration of the Bales family from Ft. Scott, California, to Hawaii in 1935 and their two-and-half-year residence there on the Island, living at the Army's Schofield Barracks. The Family included the Sarge and his wife Ruth and their three kids: Jim, Betty Joe, and Sue.
Photos include 27 taken in and around "Frisco Bay" and on the way towards Hawaii (e.g., views of Alcatraz from the boat). And 154 photographs from the Hawaii period, communicating a good sense of the life of state-side Americans on the Island before the War. The family returned home in 1937 (65 photos). Also includes 65 later, uncaptioned photos.
