Description:
License to Charles Williams and G.H.C.Taylor [Jacksonville, Oregon], Dec. 5, 1859. 1 pg.
Hoffman's 1853 diary of his overland journey from Indiana and his papers as a county official during the Indian war of 1853-56 are now held by the Oregon Historical Society. When Williams and Taylor got their liquor license, Jacksonville was still a thriving gold rush town, full of thirsty miners. Not until the 1880s did the town decline when the railroad bypassed the county seat in favor of Medford.
