Description:

Hirth, Friedrich [Professor of Chinese, Columbia University] (Leiden, formerly E.J. Brill, Leipzig, New York, 1905) First Edition. Original wrappers (front wrapper worn and detached but present). Disbound, signatures loose at spine, laid in vintage pamphlet cover of boards and cloth spine. Extensive black-and-white illustrations. Former owners signature dated 1911.

An eminent American Sinologist, Hirth, writing as both passionate collector and scholar, details Chinese art work of the 300-year Qing Dynasty, soon to be overthrown in the Republican Revolution of 1911. A classic work, reprinted in 1924 and 2009; this original printing is rarely found outside of institutional collections.

Condition

Some foxing and edge wear, otherwise very good.
