Description
Louis Icart (french 1889 - 1950). "Eve" drypoint etching circa 1928. Original Drypoint Etching with aquatint and touches of hand coloring. Watermark very faint bottom left. Copryright 1928 L. Icart upper left image. This etching was taken in trade for services by our clients Father in Charleston, SC during the Great Depression in the 1930s. It was proudly carried home and then immediately banished to a drawing room closet by our clients Mother, who found it simply unacceptable for display in any room. (It was visited often by numerous family members). Louis Icart was born in Toulouse, France. He began drawing at an early age. Icart fought in World War I. He relied on his art to stem his anguish, sketching on every available surface. It was not until his move to Paris in 1907 that Icart would concentrate on painting, drawing and the production of countless beautiful etchings, which have served (more than the other mediums) to indelibly preserve his name in twentieth century art history. A Charleston South Carolina Private Collection…Image: 13 1/4 x 18 7/8 Inches. With mat 28x22. To ship 2 pds.
