Very good condition
A dream comes true for a luxurious coffee table. The restrained and elegant form, along with the rich relief, make this set of crockery particularly harmonic and precious

‘Magic Flute’ is a porcelain service by Rosenthal, whose design originates from Björn Wiinblad. With this extraordinarily luxurious porcelain service with elaborate relief décor, the Danish designer Wiinblad made his dream come true. He created a service inspired by Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute’, where the flags, lids and walls depict a detailed relief of scenes from the opera. Underneath the pieces is the libretto text of each scene in the ornamental hand writing of Wiinblad. It is presumably one of the technically most complex services by Rosenthal.

The coffee service is comprised of the following 21 pieces:

1 coffee pot, 24 cm height

1 sugar bowl and 1 cream jar

6 cake plates, Ø 22.5 cm

6 coffee cups, incl. 6 saucers

The porcelain service bears the mark ‘Rosenthal Germany’, the inscription ‘Die Zauberflöte / Björn Wiinblad’ and verses underneath. The service is in very good condition with minimal traces of wear.

Björn Wiinblad (1918-2006)

Björn Wiinblad was a Danish painter, designer and artist in ceramics, silver, bronze, textiles and graphics. His works are exhibited in many museums worldwide. He was the creator of poster designs for the American Embassy in Paris in 1947, which made him famous. Later, his posters illustrated the famous Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. He created costumes for numerous ballets. Wiinblad was an essential designer for Rosenthal, the traditional German porcelain manufacturer.

Rosenthal

The porcelain manufacturer was established in 1879 as a family business by Philipp Rosenthal. Rosenthal is known for pioneering efforts in product design and worldwide success in design shops. Through collaborations with designers and artists, an impressive line of products arose - today seen as classic pieces. (tm)
