A GROUP OF FIVE AMERICAN REGIONALISTS PAINTINGS, CIRCA 1935-1950. Comprising a pair of watercolors including a large Haymaking Scene and a Spring River landscape by Iowa artist Lela Powers Briggs (1896-1953). The first measuring 20 inches x 24 inches, signed and dated 1939, the second measuring 14 inches x 23 inches signed and dated 1947. Together with a watercolor depicting a Stormy Landscape with Lone Horse by American artist Marjorie Dunn Campbell (1910-1998), signed and dated lower right 1939 (very much in the style of artist Millard Sheets who Campbell studied under), 14 inches x 22 inches. Also a watercolor of Hogs in a Barnyard setting by Iowa artist and Grant Wood student Arnold Pyle (1908-1973) signed lower left and measuring 12 inches x 11 inches. Together with an oil on canvasboard painting of a Man Plowing, indistinguishably signed lower right 14 inches x 18 inches. And a pencil on paper sketch of a Female Head signed and dated 1936 by American artist John Carroll (1892-1959) and measuring 10.5 inches x 8.5 inches.
