OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING OF AN ILLINOIS FARM. Signed lower right "D. Powell Oil Painter Stewardson, Ill." A fine late nineteenth century view of the Shelby County farm of D.P. Stahly, with the farmhouse, the barns, and a horse-drawn carriage. Untouched condition with some damage. 24 1/4"h. 40 1/4"w. Period frame 26 1/2"h 43"w. The large barn in this painting draws a clear architectural connection between this south-central Illinois farm and farms in southeastern Pennsylvania, where a number of early Shelby County settlers originated.
Condition reportCondition: As described. The damage includes some repaint on chimney, repair/small tear in fence & shed. Couple paint flakes & scratches in sky, push-in at top of sky. It is a wonderful scene, busy, includes a cat on the porch. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
