Rare signed "Parson Brownlow's Book: Sketches of the Rise, Progress, and Decline of Secession; with a Narrative of Personal Adventures among the Rebel", by W.G. Brownlow, Editor of the Knoxville Whig, Philadelphia, 1862. Inscriptions inside page, "Presented to ----- Joseph J. Stewart, with the respects of W. G. Brownlow May 12, 1862". Inscription inside cover, " Presented to Hon. John B. Brownlow July 2, 1905 with complt. of Thos. E. Watson 1903". A letter with U.S. Senate stationary for Howard Baker, Jr dated May 31, 1967 on the opposite page typed with the following, "Dear Mrs. Fritts: I appreciate your permitting me to borrow Parson Brownlow's Book, and I apologize for the delay in returning it to you. He was quite a man! Sincerely, (signed in black ink with Howard Baker's signature). The book is accompanied with a framed photograph of Howard Baker presenting a book to Mrs. Fritts. Condition - cloth cover torn, frayed at corners. Note on Thomas Watson - Thomas E. Watson (September 5, 1856 - September 26, 1922), was a United States Congressman and Senator from Georgia. He was a Vice Presidential candidate in 1896 and a Presidential candidate for the Populist party in 1904.
