Extremely rare Knoxville, TN stoneware jug, Weaver

Extremely scarce Knoxville, Tennessee cobalt decorated jug, stamped, "WEAVER & OBR", Weaver Brothers pottery, Knoxville, TN. The Weaver pottery was listed in the Knoxville business directory from 1876-1887 with David Weaver listed as the proprietor and George C. Weaver as a potter ("A Survey of Historic Pottery Making in Tennessee 1979", Division of Archeology, Tennessee Department of Conservation, Smith and Rogers). Condition - shallow, small nick to rim, overall very good condition. 10 1/4" height. Late 19th century. Note - this jug is only the second decorated and stamped Weaver form known. The other known decorated and stamped form is a jar which is 8 3/4" high. It has a similar glaze and an identical stamp to this jug. Dr. Charles Faulkner's book, "The Weaver Pottery Site: Industrial Archaeology in Knoxville, TN", mentions at least three characteristics pertinent to this jug. On page 61 he states: Decorations on the sherds recovered from the Weaver Pottery site were minimal (there were 4,743 sherds which were identified as vessel fragments). Fragments of two small salt glazed jugs showed evidence of cobalt painted decorations on the exterior body wall and at the handle terminals. On page 71 he again mentions the two jugs, Fragments of two small salt glazed jugs exhibited painted decorations on the exterior walls and at the handle terminals (see FIGURE 23). Although the paint appeared rather dark in color, it is likely that the color was originally cobalt (according to Rhodes (1957) and others). Lastly, on page 62 he mentions the letters of the name line would be juxtaposed (sic) occasionally. One example read "WEAVER & BOR." and another left the R completely out of the abbreviation for brother. Excerpts from Faulkner's book are photographed for viewing below.
