Tennessee redware pitcher, attributed to the Haun pottery of Greene County, TN. Found in Rogersville, TN. Lead glaze with iron oxide wash over lower portion of pitcher, pulled handle. The well executed pulled handle is similar to pulled handles on signed Haun forms. The use of iron oxide wash over the lead glaze has been found on sherds from the Haun pottery site. Specifically, the use of an iron oxide wash is an attribute of a potter working at the Haun site, J. A. Low. Low briefly resumed production of redware at the Haun pottery after Christopher Haun was hung by Confederate forces in 1861. Condition - old worn chip to spout, small vertical hairline about 1/4" near spout. Unglazed bottom. 4 1/2" height. Circa 1850.
