Inlaid tea caddy with compass stars

Rare inlaid tea caddy, possibly Southern (bottom board appears to be Eastern red cedar) with alternating light and dark inlaid compass stars on front and sides with one semicircular compass inlay at base of front, the eyebrows visible in the circular inlay at base, probably symbolizing the sun. Alternating inlay at each edge. Interior divided into three compartments, case rests on ogee bracket feet. Condition - minor loss to outside edges of ogee bracket feet, inlay band on top front and side of top later replacement, some older repairs to hinges and lock area, brass handle later replacement. 7 1/2" height without handle, 6 1/8" depth, 11 1/2" width. Early 19th century.
