Description
North Carolina folk art carving by Miles Beam (1906-1986) China Grove, NC. This carving was found with an entire box of carvings from the artist's estate and contained several carved cane handles which had never been attached to the cane shafts. The carvings were featured on a segment of the PBS "Antiques Roadshow" in Charlotte, NC. Carved and painted cane handle consisting of a shaft in the shape of a hand grasping a carving of a black painted spiraling snake on one end with red eyes, and a varnish colored spiraling snake with inlaid red eyes on the other end, terminating with the head of animal with a beak, having red inlaid eyes. Very good condition. 11 3/8" x 6 1/4" carving. Early 20th century.
