Early Tennessee coin silver ladle by David Hope

Rare coin silver ladle marked on underside "Hope", David Large Hope (1799-1869, Knoxville, TN) and marked with a radiating sunburst or eye mark. This radiating sunburst mark is identical to one of the marks of Knoxville silversmith, Samuel Bell (refer to figure 35c, p. 33 of "Tennessee Silvermiths" by Benjamin Caldwell). Samuel Bell left for San Antonio, Texas in 1852 and sold his business to David Hope. Engraved on handle, "From Grand Papa D.W.B.H". 6 7/8" length. Provenance - Milsap estate of Abingdon, Virginia.
