Description
East Tennessee silver ladle, marked on underside, "Hope & Miller", John William Hope (Knoxville, 1846-1914) was the son of David Large Hope and apprenticed with his father. Family records indicate the sons of David Hope formed the partnership of Hope and Miller with Fred Miller after the death of their father in 1869. John and his brother later formed the partnership, "Hope Brothers" (reference "Tennessee Silversmiths", Benjamin Caldwell, p. 112, example of mark, illustration 84). Very good condition, some scratches to handle. 6 1/4" length. Third quarter of the 19th century.
