Description
Brownsville, TN Jackson press. Cherry primary, poplar secondary with figured mahogany veneers on frieze and top level of cornice. Dovetailed drawers with quarter round on interior sides. Mahogany veneers around base drawers and top of stiles. Stiles transition to a column turning, large base molding, ending in behive tapered feet. Back of cornice dovetailed, elaborate blocking of cornice interior. Press appears to retain an old, possibly original surface. Condition - very good condition with minor veneer breaks, wear to drawer sides, insect damage to inside backboard of press top. Overall height - 99 7/8". Press base - 46" width x 22" depth x 43" height. Press top - 53 5/8" height x 48" width x 17" depth. Depth without cornice 14 5/8". Circa 1830.
