East Tennessee Whig's Defeat pattern quilt, 1855

Early East Tennessee quilt, Whig's pattern, pieced and applique with unusual double fish scale in plain blocks, four hearts in center of each Whig's defeat block. Turkey red binding is separate with curved corners and heavy cotton backing. This quilt was purchased in the 1970's at a Ramsey House sale, Knoxville, TN. Condition - minor staining, dirt residue in fish scale areas. 70" x 97". Circa 1855.
