Description
East Tennessee Rose Tree pattern applique quilt, stipple quilting of rose bloom and stems, unusual design of serpentine chain in the plain blocks, blocks on point with a border on two sides. Separate turkey red binding, curved corners with gauze cotton backing. Condition - green has faded to a khaki color, and border has faded with age. 68" x 80". Based on construction similarities, it is likely the same person made both the Whig's Defeat and Rose Tree quilt. Circa 1875.
