Description
Rare and large etching by John Henry Hill (American, 1839-1922). Etching depicts a tempest in a harbor, lower left margin has a fisherman, lower right margin depicts a coastal seascape. The etching is signed in pencil in the lower left corner besides the fisherman etching. Hill was a distinguished landscape painter and studied aquatint and etching techniques under his father, John William Hill (1812-1879). John Henry exhibited in New York City, Philadelphia, and the Boston Art Club during the 19th century. His work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Condition - significant browning and some large areas of stain. Etching dimensions (sight) 24 1/2" 30 1/8", frame 33" x 39". 19th century.
