The present ornamental shield from Persia was used more for prestigious than military purposes. The entire surface is adorned with a geometric and floral pattern, which is surrounded by cartouches and ribbons with inscriptions. The shield also has five screwed flower-shaped bronze mounts, on which were attached the handles on the back.
The shield has a nice patina and shows some wear marks. The screws are oxidized. The holder was attached at a later time. The diameter of the shield is 62 cm, its weight is about 4.95 kilograms.
